Easy and Quick Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs 4-4-4 Method

This 4-4-4 method of making hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot is fast, easy and gives you a perfect result every time!

I used to make hard boiled eggs the “old fashioned” way – you know, on the stove top. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. When I used that method, I found myself watching over my eggs and I couldn’t attend to another task.

Using the Instant Pot, I can basically set the eggs in, let it go and set a timer once the pot comes to pressure. From there, I know I have 8 minutes to load or unload the dishwasher, fold a basket of laundry or vacuum the kitchen, no egg babysitting required!

We love our Instant Pot!

Our Instant Pot is well loved. Did you know you can put the lid in the dishwasher? I LOVE that feature. Anyways, this procedure is as simple as putting it your water, trivet, and eggs, putting the lid on and select pressure cook for 4 minutes. That’s it!

Add your water, eggs and trivet.

Make sure that your eggs are sitting on top of the trivet and that there is no water touching the eggs. You just want enough water on the bottom to steam the eggs, right around 3/4 of an inch worth. You want to make sure the eggs have enough room and are not super squished together. In our Instant Pot, I can fit 6 comfortably.

Close the lid, seal your vent and pressure cook for 4 minutes. Once it’s at pressure, it’ll be 4 minutes and then set your timer for 4 minutes after they’re done to let the Instant Pot natural release.

Put your eggs in an ice bath

Have a bowl of water ready with some ice. Once your Instant Pot has natural released, unseal the vent and let any steam release. Open up the lid and use tongs (I used tongs with silicone tips for a good grip) and place the eggs into the ice bath.

Crack your eggs

When I tell you that these eggs crack so easily, it’s so satisfying! I like to gently tap the eggs and all sides and the shells peal right off.

  2. Place the lid on and seal
  3. Pressure Cook for 4 minutes
  4. Natural Release for 4 minutes
  5. Vent your lid and when all the steam has released, open the lid
  6. Place your eggs into your ice bath for 4 minutes
  7. Peal and enjoy or store!

Ingredients
  

  • 6 eggs if you have a larger pressure cooker, you will be able to fit more eggs. Make sure they aren't squished too tightly together
  • 3/4 cup water just enough water to fill about 3/4 of an inch in the bottom of your pot

  • 1 Pressure Cooker I used an Instant Pot

Method
 

  1. Place your water, trivet and eggs into your pressure cooker
  2. Place the lid on and seal
  3. Pressure cook for 4 minutes
  4. Natural release for 4 minutes
  5. Vent your lid and when all the steam has released, open the lid
  6. Place your eggs into your ice bath for 4 minutes
  7. Peal and enjoy or store for later!
